The Great Plague in London
London was the worst hit of all the cities. This was because the plague was spread around by flees, and because London was so densely populated it was easy for the flees to spread the plague from one human to another. At the time of the plague there were a lot of black rats living in London. All these blacks rats made it easy for the fleas to travel around. There was also great speculation that the Great Fire of London ended the plague, however, this was later found to be wrong. This was because the plague stopped all over Britain at the same time and.. It turned out that it was the weather that ended the plague as written about in samuel Pepys's diary.
The Plague in General
The plague scared everyone in throughout England at the time, as news spread that there was a fatal disease going round Britain. In one week 7.165 people died and in England, and the great plague eventually took just over 70,000 lives (estimate). Because people had no idea what was causing the plague at the time no one knew how to stop it. Many laws were put in place in London, but none of them were effective, because not one of these laws helped to stop the black rats and fleas. We later found out that it was the fleas that we biting people giving them the plague, and the fleas were living on the black rats. With the houses so close together and the weather so warm it was perfect conditions for the fleas to spread the great plague.
