The Difference Between Eyam and London
In the time of the plague there were many differences between London and the small village of Eyam. The main one was that London was a massive city , with a very dense central area where people lived and worked. Because it was so densely packed it made it easy for the spread of the disease through the fleas jumping from one person to another, this spread the plague very quickly. Because of the numerous deaths the Mayor of London made many new laws to try and stop the brutal reign of the plague. Although at the time the laws seemed very logical we now know that the laws would not of helped to stop the plague in anyway. In Eyam though it was a very different story, because the village was so small they all gathered as a community and set out what they were going to do. They came up with rules, such as no one could leave the village. This stopped the plague spreading to different villages in the area. Another rule was that any supplies had to be left out side the village walls and all the money for the goods would be left in a stone with holes in. In Eyam the villagers came together as a unit to over come the horrors of the plague but in London everyone had to deal with the plague in their own way.
